Structural foam is a low pressure structural material than can replace wood, metal or even concrete in some cases. It is created through a specific injection molding procedure during which the plastic material is mixed with gas or any other blowing agent. This process causes the plastic to foam and the material that is produced maintains the same properties that plastic is known to have, only it weighs less since it is less dense.

The workings of the process are easy to understand. The plastic travels through the mold, causing the cells contained within to pop. This allows for the outside shell of the substance to turn hard while the inner part remains as foam.

After this procedure has taken place, it causes the weight of the material to decrease significantly. The resulting substance will feel light and movable while remaining thick and sturdy. Everything that can be produced also has the advantage of being completely recyclable.

An additional benefit is that by using the material in manufacturing, everything can be produced at a quicker rate. One machine is capable of carrying out multiple injections with quick and simple adjustments. Due to this, a wide range of products may be made in a number of shapes and sizes, in a short period of time.

Structural foam is defined by a high density shell, and a low density inside. This means that the material is highly flexible in a range of situations, keeping its form and its strength. The material is used to produce a variety of good, including chairs, shoes and even mattresses.
